The Headwaters Food Pantry exists to glorify God through a demonstration of His love in providing food and grocery items to people in need.  

The Food Pantry is available to anyone in need—regardless of age or status. Whether it is a one-time or on-going need, Headwaters is eager to extend a helping hand in Christian love. 

We provide basic food and grocery items, along with some cleaning supplies. (Clothes and furniture items are not available.)

Sunday: 12:00 — 12:30 PM

The Food Pantry is located on the lower level, down the hallway from the Gym / Worship Center, across from the Women's Restroom.  Ask at the Welcome Center if you need help finding it.

How do I ask for assistance?

If you need assistance from the Food Pantry, or know someone who does, you can call the church office at 260.489.4942 (M-F 9am-4pm), fill out a Communication Card online or on Sunday morning, or simply come to the Food Pantry following the Sunday morning Service. 

Our only requirement for receiving help from the Food Pantry is that you attend a Sunday morning service.  (Due to COVID concerns, if you are unable to attend service but still need assistance, please call the church office so we can help!) 

We make no apologies for caring about your spiritual needs as well as your physical needs. Of course, we want you to have enough to eat, but we also want you to prosper spiritually. To do that, you must feed your soul as well. We want you to know the blessing of having a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

How can I help?

Donate. You can bring food and grocery items to the Donation Bin or Welcome Center on a weekly basis or during one of our food drives. 

Volunteer. We are looking for individuals to join our team, stocking the pantry and distributing food on Sundays 12-12:30pm once a month.

Pray. We covet your prayers for the physical and spiritual needs of those receiving assistance.

GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. GriefShare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable GriefShare resources to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding your life. 

Find help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member, or friend. Includes a 13 week Video Seminar–workbook available for $20 (scholarships are available). Come anytime (no need to commit to all 13 weeks!)

Motivated by the love of Christ, A Hope Center heals hearts and saves lives by providing free pregnancy services, resources, and education to nurture sexual, emotional, and spiritual health.

Inasmuch helps those in need by sharing the love and hope
of Jesus. This organization encourages financial and personal sustainability and growth. Inasmuch focuses on providing food, clothes, and other necessities. 

International House is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization committed to sharing the love and light of Jesus Christ with refugees and other internationals living in the Fort Wayne area.

In partnership with Fort Wayne UNITED and other area churches, Meals for Healing helps families who have been impacted by a homicide. As part of the Meals for Healing team, volunteers will deliver a meal to a family following the death of a loved one. Connect with Rachel Cassady at 260-437-0838 to get involved.

WHAT IS NEW MERCIES MINISTRIES?  

New Mercies Ministries is a gospel-centered organization providing supportive connections, safe housing, and restorative services for women and families, empowering them to gain stability and ultimately live independently.  

NMM provides safe, loving homes where parents may voluntarily have their children cared for while seeking to restore stability in their lives.  Volunteer Host Families, recruited through the local church, provide a loving home where children can stay while their parents get back on their feet. Family Coaches come alongside parents during the hosting, giving them support and mentorship.  Through its dedicated volunteers, NMM helps to prevent child abuse, deflect children from the foster care system, stabilize families, and share the light and hope of Christ with vulnerable families in our community. 

NMM provides a perfect opportunity for the church to respond to God’s call to practice biblical hospitality (Hebrews 13:2) and to care for the fatherless and the vulnerable (Psalm 82:3-4; Isaiah 1:17).

HOST FAMILY  

Host Families care for children in the home while also ministering to parents.  Motivated solely by compassion, each Host Family is screened, trained, and approved and serves without compensation.  New Mercies may serve children of all ages, but each individual Host Family determines the profile of the children they are able to host in their home.  In many cases, Host Families develop an ongoing relationship with the family served that often continues after children return home, providing the family with a network of support.    

FAMILY COACH 

Family Coaches coordinate the hosting from the start to reunification under the oversight of the Family Coach Manager.  In addition to supporting the Host Family and ensuring the well-being of children in care, the Family Coach provides guidance and support to parents.  Family Coaches also facilitate the relationship between the parents served and Host Family during the hosting.  

SUPPORT VOLUNTEER  

These volunteers help support parents and Host Families in non-hosting ways.  This can include transporting parents to an appointment or interview, transporting hosted children to school, making meals, providing short-term childcare (babysitting or respite care) for a Host Family, or offering prayer support.   

MINISTRY COORDINATOR  

At each partner church, a ministry coordinator becomes a point person for people in the church to learn about New Mercies, get involved, and receive support. A ministry coordinator connects New Mercies leadership with potential volunteers in the church and provides regular support for those volunteers.  

SUPPORT LINE VOLUNTEER  

Support Line volunteers are typically the first point of contact with families in need. When a parent calls, these volunteers answer from their own homes and collect basic information about their needs so that a hosting can be coordinated.  

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES  

Provide professional services at a discounted rate or at no cost to the children in care and / or Host Family during a placement.  Professionals could include doctors, dentists, hair stylists, or home maintenance technicians.  

PRAYER TEAM  

Receives regular updates with specific prayer requests for the ministry.  Individuals may also be matched with a Host Family to provide extra prayer support during a placement.

Sharing comfort and HOPE to families grieving the loss of their baby

Noah’s Hope is a special ministry born out of heartbreaking loss. Expecting their third son, in August 2006, Kristin and Mike Koning went in for a routine doctor visit at 15 weeks. What an ultrasound revealed that day would change their lives forever. The doctor told them that their baby, Noah, had a genetic syndrome incompatible with life. The Konings were heartbroken, but trusted the One who holds the future. The Headwaters family rallied around them, supporting them in prayer. Noah defied the odds and the doctor’s predictions and was born alive at 34 weeks. Mike and Kristin cherished the two hours they had to hold and love Noah here on earth. 

In honor of what would have been Noah’s first birthday, friends from church helped Kristin put together some special gifts to give to the hospital for other families experiencing the loss of a baby. This project, in memory of Noah, continued each year and as the Headwaters family embraced this outreach of love it grew into the ministry we call Noah’s Hope. 

The women of Headwaters have continued to meet several times each year to create hand-made photo memory books. Each book was pieced, each page glued, and each ribbon chosen with prayers for comfort and healing. Around 1000 books have been distributed to local hospitals over the last 10 years. Thank you! Noah’s Hope has also given hundreds of Noah Bears to mothers leaving our local hospitals with empty arms. 

In this digital era it has become apparent that the Noah Bears are having the most meaningful impact. Each bear comes with a personal note from Kristin and a message from Headwaters Church, a new tag with a special charm, and handwritten cards. 

Our prayer is that through Headwaters Church, Noah’s Hope can continue to offer comfort to families in our community experiencing the loss of a baby. This small gift we give affirms that each life is special, no matter how small and that our Headwaters family cares for you and your loss too.

Women come together to sew a wide variety of items used to minister to those at our church, within our community and across the world. You don’t have to know how to sew. There are a variety of steps that go into each project. Upcoming event: On February 24th in Headwater's Building 1, Sew & Serve will work on cutting and sewing covers for wheel chair pads. If you're a parent who have experienced the death of a child of any age for any reason, please join us for a bereaved parent support group through While We're Waiting.

Our faith-based group is free and open to any bereaved parent, regardless of your beliefs. However, we believe that even through life's greatest challenges God is our Comforter and Sustainer as we seek to grieve with hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). 

During our time together, there will be time for connecting, sharing, reflecting, and encouraging one another— although no one is required to share if they are not comfortable doing so. 

We typically meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8:00pm at Headwaters Church, Building 2, Meeting Room A.
 
All are welcome.

You do not need to register to attend, however your registration gives us an idea of how many folks to expect.

The Need

When a parent loses a child, they can find themselves feeling very alone in a world that has seemingly moved on without them. Relationships with others can become strained as these parents are no longer the same people they were before. Pop-culture theology and well-intended platitudes often hurt more than they help.

While We’re Waiting retreats and support Groups give bereaved parents the opportunity to spend time with other parents who truly understand the experience of child loss. Moms and Dads can remove their masks and be authentic in a safe, welcoming environment. Lifelong bonds of friendship are formed and our faith in God is strengthened as we discuss our grief in light of the promises in His Word. We honestly share our struggles and our victories and discuss how we can live well while we’re waiting to be reunited with our children in Heaven one day.

All retreats and support groups are facilitated by parents who have experienced the death of a child … folks who love the Lord and are well-acquainted with grief. The facilitators do not have formal training as grief counselors and attending one of our events should not be viewed as a substitute for professional counseling. We are just parents walking this road of grief together … We learn from each other at these events!

While We’re Waiting was co-founded by Brad and Jill Sullivan & Larry and Janice Brown of Hot Springs, Arkansas, in the fall of 2010 to address the need for Biblically-based support for parents who have experienced the death of a child. They hosted their first bereaved parent retreat in April of 2011 and have hosted over 100 retreats since that time.  www.whilewerewaiting.org

City Life is a relational, holistic, community-based ministry aimed at serving under-resourced neighborhoods through developing young people from that community to emerging leaders who lead where they live.

Young Lives Moms connects teen moms to community in Christ. Headwaters has participated by providing childcare and food for meetings, support for camps, and is looking for women interested in becoming a mentor to a teen mom.
