Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a member or attender of Headwaters Church (HWC) to receive counseling?

No. While priority is given to members of Headwaters Church, it is our privilege and desire to come alongside those seeking help with various questions, problems, and troubles from the from our church, neighborhood and the greater Ft. Wayne area.

Is there a cost for counseling?

No. Since this ministry is a part of and underwritten by Headwaters Church there is no cost for counseling sessions. However, we have a 24-hour cancellation policy which includes a $50 deposit for appointments canceled less than 24-hours before start of session.

What are the counseling hours?

Counseling sessions occur Mondays – Wednesdays from 9:00am to 8:30pm. These sessions are scheduled in specific one-hour blocks during those times.

If my spouse and I both desire counseling, do we each need to complete the intake forms?

Yes, we kindly ask that each individual take the time complete their intake and consent form which aids the counselor’s understanding of each one’s perspective of the issues they are facing.

How many counseling sessions can I expect to commit to?

Each person and counseling case is different and therefore the length of counseling can vary greatly. With that said, sessions typically last from 16-24 weeks.

Are counselors meeting in person or online?

Our preference is always to counsel in person. However, from time to time and in rare circumstances we can conduct counseling sessions via Zoom.

Does HWC counsel children and adolescents?

Yes, with some qualification. Since God has given the responsibility of raising children to the parent, we prefer to come alongside the parent to help them "train up the child." Therefore, we prefer to counsel the child with the parent(s) present. Situations where it’s necessary to counsel a child without the parent being present will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Are the counselors certified?

Each of our counselors have gone through a rigorous, demanding, and multi-year biblical counseling training and certification process that included testing and supervision. They have been certified with ACBC (Association of Certified Biblical Counselors) or are in the final steps of obtaining their certification. Each of them has experience helping people through similar issues to your own.
